Local Tourism Notes for Monaco

All staff at the Monaco Tourist Office speak English. You will find them very helpful with all tourism questions as well as questions on public transport and more. If you're in need of some help, they're always worth asking.

The Tourist Office is also able to provide general information on the area, much of it as appropriate to the resident as to the visitor. If you want to know about fairs, markets, concerts and other events in your area the Tourist Office is bound to have information, brochures and flyers.

Tourist Attractions

The Monte-Carlo Casino and Opera House

Built by Charles Garnier in the 19^th century, the Monte-Carlo opera house and casino have become world famous. The Salle Garnier, decorated in red and gold with many sculptures and frescoes, has been host over the years to many international performances of ballet and opera. The games rooms are decorated with many stained glass windows, paintings and sculptures.

The Prince's Palace

This palace was built on the site of a Genoese fortress. Features of the palace that can be visited include the Italian-style gallery, the Throne Room, the Palatine Chapel, the Sainte-Marie tower and the main courtyard.

Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium

This world famous museum of marine sciences is also an architectural masterpiece. It's façades rise over the sea to a height of 85 metres. The museum houses a priceless collection of marine fauna gathered by Prince Albert I and an aquarium with a huge variety of race species of fish. There is also a Sharks Lagoon presenting the diversity of coral reefs and their inhabitants.

Louis II Stadium

This huge sports complex in Fontvieille, a district of Monaco, was inaugurated in 1985 and hosts many international sporting competitions as well as being the home of the AS Monaco football team. The stadium also hosts Herculis, an international athletics meeting that takes place annually in July and is now rated as the second in the world.
