e-mail mandle | Hi
My heating and water is fuiled by oil and the boiler is playing up. When switched on is starts making the normal noises then dies on me, does'nt actually fire up! Does anyone know what the problem may be and can help!!

Mandy | gateway1 replied on 07/11/2009 at 16:26 e-mail gateway1 | Could be that you have no oil or its not reaching the boiler, which could be the case if you have just had a delivery after running out, leading to air in the pipes. You may have to unscrew a fitting/tap, probably near the fuel filter, and run of some oil into a bottle until the fuel lines fill up again. This is done by firing the boiler a few times until it kicks in completely. If you can find the filter you should see the fuel lines coming in and out, normally four in total, but one with either with no pipe on it, or a short piece. You don't need to take the filter apart, just loosen the one screw/fitting/tap that appears connected to this line. Starting the boiler will expell the air from the fuel system via this line until the oil flows free - thats what you need the bottle for, to catch the oil that will come bubbling through along with the air. Once finished just pour it back into the main fuel tank.
It sounds more complicated than it is, but its pretty straightforward. Good luck, hope it works.
