Information on the immatriculation - a vehicle's registration paperwork with details on how to go about buying or selling a vehicle in Monegasque registered vehicle in the Principality.
The immatriculation is a vehicle's registration. The details of a vehicle's registration are
found on the Certificat d'Immatriculation (registration certificate).
When a Monegasque car is bought or sold, the new ownership must be registered within one month of the transfer and a new Certificat d'Immatriculation will be issued to the new owner. Paperwork is handled by the
Service des Titres de Circulation.

The Certificat d'Immatriculation should be carried in the car at all times.
Buying and Registering a Used Car
Before agreeing to buy a used car:
- Make sure that the serial number stamped on the car matches that in the registration documents of the seller
- Make sure that the seller is the legally registered owner of the car by checking on the Certificat d'Immatriculation
Documents required to register a used car currently registered in Monaco:
- Completed Vehicle Registration form (Demande d'immatriculation d'un Vehicle
- form STC/001)
- Proof of identity: passport, Monaco identity card or Carte de Séjour
- Monaco driving license
- Bill of sale
- Proof of vehicle insurance
- The Certificat d'Immatriculation (registration certificate)
- The number plate(s)
- Cars over four years old must have a vehicle roadworthiness certificate (Contrôle Technique) issued
within the previous six months. The roadworthiness test must be completed at the
Centre de Contrôle Technique des Véhicules de Monaco
Documents required to register a used car
currently registered in France:
- Completed Vehicle Registration form (Demande d'immatriculation d'un Vehicle
- form STC/001)
- Proof of identity: passport, Monaco identity card or Carte de Séjour
- Monaco driving license
- Bill of sale (Volet "A" if purchased from a car dealer)
- Proof of vehicle insurance
- The Carte Grise (French registration certificate)
- The Certificat de Situation (non gage) - this is obtained from
the prefecture where the car was previously registered and indicates whether any
liens are held against the vehicle
- Cars over four years old must have a vehicle roadworthiness certificate (Contrôle Technique)
issued within the previous six months.
A registration payment is required and can be
made with cash, a French or Monégasque cheque or a bank card.
Selling a Used Car
The seller must send the following to the Service des Titres de Circulation:
- Completed Sale or Relinquishment of a Used
Vehicle form (Certificat de vente ou de cession d'un véhicule d'occasion
- form STC/020)
- The Certificat d'Immatriculation
- If the car is more than four years old, a vehicle roadworthiness certificate
(Contrôle Technique) from a test taken within the previous six months.
- The number plate(s) if the vehicle is sold outside Monaco
Obtaining a Duplicate Vehicle Registration Document
In the event of the loss of theft of the vehicle registration document (Certificat d'Immatriculation),
a replacement can be obtained from the Service des Titres de Circulation.
The following
documents must be provided in the event of loss:
- Completed Declaration of Loss and Replacement Request (Déclaration de
perte et Demande de duplicata - form STC/040)
- Proof of identity: passport, Monaco identity card or Carte de Séjour
The following documents must be provided in the event of a theft:
- Completed Declaration of Theft (Déclaration de Vol); available from the Sureté Public
- Proof of identity: passport, Monaco identity card or Carte de Séjour
Change of Address
Changing an address on a driver's licence or vehicle registration document can be done
at the Direction de la Sûreté Publique de Monaco. For foreign
residents in Monaco who are changing the address on a Carte de Séjour it is
possible to request that other governmental agencies be
informed of the change at the same time. This also includes the Service des Titres de Circulation,
which will update the address on a vehicle registration document and driving
licence.

A small fee is payable and the following documents are required:
- Completed Change of Address form (Demandes Diversés -
form STC/042)
- Proof of identity: passport, Monaco identity card or Carte de Séjour
- A colour passport size photo
- Original relevant documents (driving licence or certificat
d'immatriculation)
- An electric bill with the new address and/or a deed or lease may be
requested
Destruction of a Vehicle
The Service des Titres de Circulation must be
notified when a car is destroyed or scrapped. A small fee is payable and the
following documents must be provided:
- A Vehicle Destruction Request form (Demande de Destruction d'un Véhicule
- form STC/021)
- The registration certificate
- The vehicle number plates
- A copy of the insurance report if the vehicle was destroyed in, or as a
result of, an
accident
